Pathway Through Uncertainty
By webmaster @ 10:11 AM :: 221 Views :: 1 Comments :: Rev. Peggy Funderburke

The first thing I do every morning as I swing my feet out of the warm, cozy cocoon of my bed is say, “Thank you God for bringing me safely through the night.”

Some rare mornings, virtually no energy is expended in making the bed; the place where I set my head with the onset of sleep is the same place I wake up in. Ah... deep peaceful sleep. Some nights are longer than others; my body becomes familiar with all four corners of my bed. My covers take on a post war-zone look. Some nights even Sally, my cat, won’t venture onto my bed—I keep trying to process all of the uncertainties in my life.  Sometimes I try to hold tight to what I think I have. This, I think, is not a very helpful attitude for me.

The Cookie Lady
By webmaster @ 7:00 AM :: 217 Views :: 2 Comments :: Rev. Peggy Funderburke
This week, as many of you know, I am away in Tampa visiting my Mom. My Mom has dementia and has lived in an assisted living facility for the past 5 years. It is really hard to be a good, attentive daughter with her so far away, geographically. In my heart, she is always with me; she has always been my prime example of generous living.

Your 95 Theses
By webmaster @ 2:23 PM :: 220 Views :: 2 Comments :: Rev. Peggy Funderburke
It was on this day in 1517 that Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the church doors in Wittenberg, Germany. This may sound odd to some of us – but the church’s doors in that day were like our bulletin boards. The church was centrally located so people walking on foot could stop and see what was going on. Luther wrote his 95 Theses in Latin which was the only accepted language of the church at that time. His action, nevertheless, caused a huge ruckus within the church since one of Luther’s main criticisms was the church’s practice of selling indulgences; he maintained that our salvation is by God’s Grace alone; there is no way for us to buy or merit our way to heaven. He also criticized a variety of other established church doctrines and practices as having no basis in Scripture.

God Multiplies Our Gifts
By webmaster @ 7:00 AM :: 227 Views :: 1 Comments :: Rev. Peggy Funderburke
A friend sent me a “Thank You” note this week. I had forgotten that I had sent him a book over the summer. My friend is a writer (and teacher) and I felt that the book might give him a different perspective on his current area of research for his upcoming book. The subject of the book I gave him came up in the class he was teaching, and he was able to speak with authority having just read it.

Let Grace Bind My Heart to Thee
By webmaster @ 10:52 AM :: 240 Views :: 1 Comments :: Rev. Peggy Funderburke
When I arrive at church, my normal sequence of events is to pick up a Bulletin to check out what hymns we will be singing in worship. [Yea, I know maybe I am a little strange!] This Sunday, I was delighted when I saw that we were going to sing one of my favorite hymns, “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing.” There is something in this hymn that speaks to my core – it’s not just the lyrical melody (which I will be humming for days!) – the words – poignant words that touch the parts of my soul that I would like to keep hidden.

Faith is All We Have
By webmaster @ 7:00 AM :: 201 Views :: 0 Comments :: Rev. Peggy Funderburke
Tomorrow is Columbus Day - I will be officiating at a Funeral here at Marble. The deceased was an agnostic. Agnostic is Greek in origin; ‘a’ means without and ‘gnostic’ means knowledge; without knowledge. Today, we used this term to mean not denying but also not believing in God; not knowing God.

Courageously Follow Your Heart
By webmaster @ 7:00 AM :: 244 Views :: 2 Comments :: Rev. Peggy Funderburke
Well, here it is Sunday, 4:30pm. I am the only one on the 7th floor, I am having a delicious time sitting in the silence and thinking back over my week with God. Blessings, so many blessings. I was particularly blessed yesterday. Yesterday marked the culmination of months of planning, hoping and dreaming of a couple that were married at Marble.

Changing Lives
By webmaster @ 7:00 AM :: 239 Views :: 1 Comments :: Rev. Peggy Funderburke
This past week we had a funeral for a beloved Marble member who died at the age of 54. Jim’s death surprised and shocked many of us. We weren’t expecting it. There had not been a long hospital stay prior to death – any hospital stay at all - that I knew about.

Finding Positive Change
By webmaster @ 7:00 AM :: 184 Views :: 0 Comments :: Rev. Peggy Funderburke

Dropping a large stone into water can create a violent splash. Yet, from that splash, ripples emerge, spreading out across the water. Similarly, terrible events shock and disrupt our daily lives. After processing our grief, however, we become better able to locate God's spirit moving through the ripples.

Coming to Change
By webmaster @ 7:00 AM :: 232 Views :: 1 Comments :: Rev. Peggy Funderburke
Blogging is new for me and represents a major change for a self-professed "techno-dinosaur" like myself. When we understand change, we open ourselves to it, but so often change may be unexpected and, therefore, scary. Let's commit to change together and see where it takes us.
