Coming to Change
By webmaster @ 7:00 AM :: 252 Views :: 1 Comments :: Rev. Peggy Funderburke

What a day to start – the 13th!

This blogging thing is a first for me. I have been told that a blog is like writing a diary that quite possibly the entire world will read. I have never thought much about exposing my inner thoughts to the world. I find this concept alone to be quite intimidating; not to mention the commitment of an entry every week!

I have made a promise to ‘run the race,’ so since we are to proceed - in an orderly manner – I believe there are some things you need to know about me.  First, I am a “techno-dinosaur”.  I have one phone in my home and, yes, I never bought the touch-tone alteration – rotary works just fine, thank you very much.

I don’t take to change very well – no that is not fair to myself – I do take to change when I can see the purpose, the logic. But sometimes – I cannot see, cannot understand, where change is leading me and I become quite resistive.

Change is a huge theme throughout the Bible; and, indeed, a call to change is Jesus’ first proclamation in Matt. 4:17. Jesus calls us to “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” Repent literally means to change the course that we are on which moves us away from God - to a course that moves us towards God.

I am choosing to do this blog which represents a huge change for me. I wait in excited anticipation to see where God will lead me next week! What are you choosing to change in your life?

Welcome fellow techno phobe. Wow rotary huh? I remember those. It just takes so long to dial a number though!
"The only constant is change" is a famous quote that bears repeating. I often find that in renewing my mind and soul in Christ involves change on a daily basis. A shift in focus so to speak, to try to lead in love and not in my human first selfish reaction to situations. To not shove my way onto the subway, to open the door for the lady, to not return anger, with anger etc. I find that change to be essential as I try to walk my Christian path, and humbly follow God. I look forward to your future posts!
