Well, here we are at week #2. You probably don’t know that I write my ‘blog’ on Friday before it is posted on the following Wednesday. (So today is actually Sept. 14th.)
I want to stay with this idea of “change” that I started with last week. On Tuesday, Sept. 11th, we here at Marble, had worship services in which we ‘re-membered’ with the events of that awful day. We stayed in the memories for a while and then we were asked to think about how our world has changed for the good as a result of that terrible day.
What has changed, quite possibly as a direct result Sept. 11th, that has made our world a better place?
For me, one of the most positive changes is that the major religions are speaking with each other, instead of at one another. We are learning more and more what is good and holy in each of the different faiths. I, for one, have learned that God speaks more languages than English and has been working in other belief systems beyond Protestantism. I have learned that when one suffers, we all suffer – that there is a global oneness of humanity. This sense of oneness finds its way into our care/lack of care for folks who are homeless or are in want – whether it be for medical care or for food. I am reminded of that saying, “You and/or I may be the only Christ some people will meet today.”
Have there been any positive changes in your world that has come as a direct result of Sept. 11? |
