Simple Words, Blessed Effect

There are two words in the vocabulary of living that ennoble and ease all human interaction. Without them, the world would be a cold and harsh place. They are “thank you.”
Every time the words thank you are spoken, at least two people benefit: the person who expresses thanks, and the one who is thanked.
Think about your environment. You are surrounded by people you need: the bus driver, the subway conductor, the news vendor. How about approaching them and saying “thank you”? You might say, “Why thank them? They’re doing their jobs.” But you do your job, and doesn’t it make a difference when somebody says, “Thank you for what you’re doing”?
If you go a bit deeper, there’s another group of people that significantly affect who you are — those who have helped you grow, who have walked with you through personal trials, who through the example of their lives have opened up possibilities for you.
Over the years, I’ve written letters to people who have had an influence on me. Most of them wrote back or called me. There was a deeper bonding between us, a stronger sense of connectedness, because I said, “Thank you. You made a difference in my life, and I appreciate it.”
I invite you to think about somebody who has enriched your life. Reach out and tell that person how much you’ve been helped, and say thank you. Not with just a phone call or an e-mail, but with a real letter -- something that can be saved and read over and over. You both will be blessed. |

Oh the glorious experience of opening a handwritten letter! With the internet, and instant messaging, and text messaging, it is almost a miracle to receive one. Oh but when you do....it is such a gift. It takes time and thought to put pen to paper, to compose a message that will last, address an envelope, find a stamp, and mail something. What a wonderful idea to show your love for another soul. I have many letters from my best friend that I will cherish forever, and I do read them over and over. Each time, I can feel the love from the person who wrote the letter.

I will say the floks at Marble are very good with the written thanks yous and I have two that hang by my desk that Ii DO read over and over when I need a lift and for that often needed positive reenforcement I would like to Thank Gail Kitzleman and Kim Ryan. And of course all the people who so generously touch my life at Marble.
