What Do We Mean By God?

September 12
Led by Dr. Michael Brown, moderated by Nina Frost

The word "God" has come to mean many different things. In Christian tradition, we speak of God in three persons: the blessed Trinity of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. In our own lives, we wrestle with a God who may feel very present or often absent... a source of comfort or an author of surprise... an abstraction or a very concrete relity. In this open forum, bring your questions and engage Dr. Brown on the subject of God.

Disbelieving God
Rev. David LewickiSeptember 19
Led by Rev. David Lewicki

There is so much instruction about what to  believe about God, but what about the importance of knowing what
not to believe? Is there a God we should not believe in, and if so, what might that look like? Rev. Lewicki leads a conversation designed especially for guests visiting Marble for "Bring-a-Friend/Educators' Sunday."

Our Images of God

Dr. Kathryn MaddenSeptember 26
Led by Kathryn Madden

In our spiritual and psychological growth, we become aware of numerous images of God. How do we discern when these images are truly of God in contrast to those we grow up with or are of our own making? What about images that maybe disconcerting or awe-inspiring: God as male/female; God as creator/destroyer? How does our spiritual longing to connect work as a bridge to the Divine? Which images are effective in personal healing, in our relationships, in our creative endeavors, and in our bond with the living God?

Kathryn Madden, Ph.D, is a pastoral psychotherapist, author of Dark Light of the Soul, co-editor of the Encyclopedia of Psychology & Religion, senior editor of Quadrant, and served as CEO & Academic Dean of the Blanton-Peale Institute.
