Sunday Adult Education | 1:30pm

Marble has a reputation for being a superb place to be an explorer—a place where questions about faith can be lived safely, passionately, and in the good company of fellow travelers. Adult Education offering meets from 1:30-2:30pm, in Bay Hall. Each month, this class takes an intriguing topic central to our faith and looks at it a different way, through lenses that are biblical, theological, psychological, or practical. Speakers are drawn from the Marble community and outside experts; classes are a range of lecture, Q&A, panel discussion, personal exercises, and more.

In March: The Lenten Journey
As Dr. Brown has pointed out, Lent is traditionally a time of self-examination. Not in a self-absorbed way, but in a way that reflects the classic call to “repentance,” which means to “turn around,” to change directions where we need to. The movement into Lent is different for everyone, and this month’s Adult Education classes offer tools for the journey of “turning” that await us all:  glorious music, chances to learn about caregiving and ways to end hunger, and a mini-workshop on reconciliation – ways to seek God’s forgiveness and healing through an honest look at ourselves.

Concert a la Carte: Praying Twice

Camellia JohnsonMarch 14
Sanctuary Choir & Soloists

“Whoever sings prays twice.” This quote attributed to St. Augustine serves as the inspiration for a 60-minute musical presentation in Marble’s Sanctuary centered on sung prayer. We know that music can transport us in ways speech alone cannot. And speech can convey wisdom and spirituality that music alone cannot. But when music and words are joined in sung prayer the result is often a profound language of the soul, and a transcendent encounter with the divine. Hosted by Kenneth Dake with the Sanctuary Choir and soloists including Camellia Johnson (soprano). No admission charge; a free-will offering will be accepted.

What Can I Do to Help?

March 21
Led by Sheila Warnock

It has happened to us all: someone we know is facing the demanding role of caregiver and needs help. Sheila Warnock, founder and president of ShareTheCaregiving, Inc. (a recipient of Marble’s Easter Offering), talks about how ordinary people can organize and maintain a powerful group to support the family caregiver as well as the patient. The ShareTheCare model is effective whether the patient is in need of rehabilitation, suffering from terminal illness, facing difficulties associated with aging, or even recovering from a joyful event, like with the birth of quadruplets. It’s about community at its best.
