Minister: Reverend William Tsiu (pronounced "See You")
Members: 400 (approx.)
Rev. William Tsiu has been minister of this church for 23 years. He lives in Soweto with his wife of 33 years Connie and their teenage son Katleho. They have four older children and three grandchildren. William holds a master's degree in African languages and teaches a correspondence course at a University in Pretoria.
Connie, a teacher, is principal at a junior school in an older part of Soweto. In addition to her duties as principal she is nurse, cook, and social worker, as the school has many orphaned children who are often hungry. The school provides daily meals--mainly "pap," a food staple made from corn. Connie also oversees the women's ministry of the church and has been director of the choir.
The Botshabelo congregation worships in an old youth center with garage doors along one wall. In addition to a sermon and readings from the Bible, there is plenty of singing during worship. The offering is conducted by individual groups of men, women and youth in a ritual where all dance and sing as they bring their gifts to the church treasurer who announces the amounts for each group.
