Stewardship 2010
Enriching Our Faith Through Prayer, Presence, Gifts, and Service

Enriching Our Faith: Prayers, Presence, Gifts, and Service

Marble Collegiate Church is a special place where we experience community and nurturing relationships, and where people are enriched in their faith.

We are a blessed people. We are blessed by a dynamic and far reaching ministry. To continue the level of ministry we need your support. We need your prayers, your presence, your service and we need your financial gifts.

Our pledge goal for 2010 is $1,800,000. We need 100% participation to be successful.

Please take a pledge card, pray over it, fill it in and return it today or bring it with you to church on Commitment Sunday, November 15.

We all share the responsibilities. We all share the blessings. We all make a difference. Your gifts to your church are a way of expressing love and gratitude to God for the many blessings you have received. We thank you for what you’re about to do.

Read a letter by senior minister, Dr. Michael Brown, for more information about Marble's 2010 Stewardship campaign.

Give Your Prayers

Prayer

Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the flood gates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.” –Malachi 3:10b

“For the first time in my life I experienced the power of prayer. Some time ago I had a serious health scare. My friends, the staff at Marble and congregation all prayed for me. I got through it more spiritually grounded than I have ever been. I became aware of the many friends I have here at Marble. I felt loved and cared for. Their prayers made all the difference in the world.” –Robert Romagnoli
Strengthen your faith with prayer:

Give Your Presence

Presence

For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them. –Matthew 18:20

“I came to Marble looking for community and a church family because New York can be a really difficult city. Marble provided a place for spiritual growth. Many miracles have since taken place in my life. Including meeting my husband and after ten years of marriage adopting our beautiful son Andrew. We are thrilled to have this church in which to raise him.” –Carla Iliescu

But just as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us—see that you also excel in this grace of giving. –2 Corinthians 8:7

“I came to Marble because I felt there was something missing in my life. What I found at Marble is a group of people who accept me, unconditionally. I have an opportunity to be of service to my church and to my community and grow emotionally and in Christ. It has made me who I am and I have become a better person for it. I am so blessed. Why do I give to Marble? Marble is my spiritual home.” –Janet Smith

“You shall bring the choicest first fruits of your soil to the house of the Lord your God.”

A Biblical Perspective by Sister Carol Perry

Sister Carol PerryThe concept of the tithe is well-developed in the Old Testament, the idea of giving to the service of God and to the care of the poor a specified share of one's harvest or flock. It is based on the simple fact that the earth was God's and human beings had only the use of it. The tithe acknowledged that dependency on God, the landlord.

The New Testament further develops this by underlining the idea of the steward, a person of enormous importance in a large household. It was he who had charge of all the master's material good and of their use. He owned nothing, but was answerable for the use and growth of everything. It isn't surprising that this word crept into the Christian vocabulary since there must have been any number of stewards for absentee Roman landlords in the crowds that Jesus addressed.

When Jesus spoke of the master who left each of his servants with talents to be invested, the stewards in the crowd would have nodded with understanding. Like us, their talents differed: one had five, one two, and the other only one, but no servant escaped accountability. Jesus says in Luke 12:48, "For everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required; and from the one to whom much has been entrusted, even more will be demanded." This is not a threat, but a simple statement of a steward's responsibility.

Paul reminds the Corinthians of his and their vocation: "Think of us in this way, as servants of Christ and stewards of God's mysteries. Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found trustworthy." (Corinthians 4:1-2)

When we talk about stewardship we are being very biblical, very Jesus-centered. With the author of the Letter of Peter we reflect: "Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you had received." (1 Peter 4:10) God trusts us. There is no escaping our responsibility but why would we want to? Paul reminds us: "... for what do you have that you have not received? And if you received it, why do you boast as if it were not a gift?" (1 Corinthians 4:7)

We must hold ourselves accountable by giving in joyous response to God, the giver of all gifts.
