Discipleship

“Discipleship” is a word we use often in our church (and, obviously, is used often in all Christian churches). We employ it as a “functionary” description of Christian believers. When we talk about disciples, we always tend to mean people who “follow” Jesus and thus “serve” the world.

Have you ever given much thought to what I call “the sketchiness of the saints”? Seriously, when you really focus on the stories behind the people on many of the Bible’s pages, you have to wonder how they ever were included in a Holy Book.

I read the most interesting statement recently. Let’s put it in context. The man was writing about his workplace. He observed (as everyone who works alongside others understands) that there is sometimes “too much drama,” as he put it, that gets in the way of accomplishing the business they are hired to do. So, he wrote about his way of avoiding the drama. He said: “I just sort of go along and get along.”

Am I Living INTO This?

Not long ago I heard someone refer to a great passage from scripture. He said: “Am I living up to this?” Perhaps the better question would be: “Am I living INTO this?” There’s a difference.
