Advent - Sunday, November 30
Posted on November 30, 2014 by Sister Carol Perry

In the days of King Herod of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly order of Abijah. His wife was a descendant of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth... But they had no children, because Elizabeth was barren, and both were getting on in years. - Luke 1:5,7

We start our Advent journey with two good people, Zechariah who is part of the Temple priesthood, and his wife, Elizabeth, whose ancestry is actually superior to his. She is a descendant of Aaron himself. But their heritage counts for little since their neighbors see them as failures. “But they had no children...” What grief that must have been in their world where a child meant one had a future.

Let us begin this blessed season by acknowledging that failure and darkness might come our way too. We need faith to see us through.
