I have an innate love of words so I am particularly excited when I find a new one, that is, new to me, and I have a chance to savor it. I am not speaking of the words our world creates for new products or services. There is something a bit false about them. What I do refer to are words that exist and I never have met them.

In a world that sometimes seems to have lost its moorings, we often feel as if our prayer life is inadequate to deal with the reality of the daily news. At least I often feel that way. As I look at the world’s problems, and then come to Sunday worship I have questions about the issues of the day. What do I do with them?

This early in 2015 our calendars stretch before us with so many blank spaces just waiting to be filled in. May I suggest that, in addition to those resolutions we might have made with some fervor on January 1 that we add a firm resolve to give ourselves some fallow time.
