Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly father is perfect. - Matthew 5:48
This verse has troubled far too many people who read it literally. The word for “perfect” that Jesus most probably used actually would be better translated as “complete”. Jesus is asking us to live up to every gift and good quality that we have. It is a biblical way of saying that which we used to sing “Accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative”.... That song is now out of date but the sentiment is not.
In prayer, let’s look for what we need to concentrate on today in order to do as Jesus is asking.
