Mission, Outreach and Hospitality: Thistle Farms

The Marble Loft
Sunday, December 11, 2016
12:15 pm – 2:00 pm

Marble’s Missions & Outreach and Hospitality Ministries join Thistle Farms in the movement to help women heal from the impacts of human trafficking. The FBI has stated that human trafficking is the third-largest criminal activity in the world, and includes forced labor, domestic servitude, and commercial sex trafficking. In 1997, Rev. Becca Stevens, who was recently named a Top 10 CNN 2016 Hero*, started Thistle Farms under the name Magdalene, which provides a two-year residential program and advocacy services for hundreds of women yearly who have escaped prostitution, addiction and trafficking — and provides a place for them to heal. Rev. Stevens says that at Thistle Farms, they light a candle daily for every victim who will walk through their doors in search of healing, and the conversation with these women begins with “Tell me your story,” not with “what did you do?” Today, Thistle Farms is not only a sanctuary for women but a social enterprise that supports the program. Thistle Farms stands for the truth that love heals and is the most powerful force for change in the world.

On Sunday, December 11, please join us in the Marble Loft following Worship to support the movement for women’s freedom by purchasing products made by the women survivors at Thistle Farms (supplies limited). For more information, contact Susanah Wade.

* CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute airs live on CNN and CNNgo at 8:00pm ET, Sunday, December 11.
