Marble Racial Justice Series
Justice and the Church: Rediscovering the Social Gospel for Ministry in the 21st Century
The clergy of Marble Church hosted the first dialogue on racial injustice in June 2020; not long after video footage of George Floyd’s murder went viral. Since then, we have continued these efforts with once-monthly events to draw awareness to the racial injustices that impact our congregation and community.
What do Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (Southern Christian Leadership Conference), Ella Jo Baker (Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee), Rev. Reverdy Cassius Ransom (Institutional Church), and Harriet Tubman have in common? Over the courses of their lives, through their involvement in Christian congregations, they pioneered paradigms of ministry that were rich in social action. In this talk, we will explore opportunities for the 21st-century church to become meaningfully involved in causes for social action.
