A Letter from Dr. Michael Bos, Senior Minister

Dear Marble Family,

I’m writing to inform you that as of Sunday, March 15, we will be moving to online worship until further notice. This will be for Sundays and Wednesdays. The Prayer Circle and Ten O'Clock Hour will be combined and livestreamed at 10:00am, so please plan to join us online for this as well. This was an extremely hard decision to make, but New York City is directing all organizations with a seating capacity greater than 500 to cancel their events, and we want to join with others to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. We are also very concerned for the safety and well-being of our congregation. Therefore, it was with this in mind that we made this decision.

These last few weeks have been surreal, and it seems each morning we wake up to a new reality. Who could have imagined that Broadway would close, public events would be canceled across the city, sporting events would be suspended, the market would decline significantly, and now we learn a number of states are closing schools. This has led to fear and uncertainty about our future.

In the midst of the physical distance this has created between us, we need to remember that we need each other more than ever. We are blessed that we can worship together online. We are working on ways for our ministries and groups to meet online so we can support one another. And through it all, our board, pastors, ministry leaders and staff will be providing spiritual, emotional and physical assistance to our community.

We ask that if you know of people in the congregation who do not use email or have access to our website, please call them to let them know what is happening. We are doing our best to contact everyone and can use your help. There will also be opportunities for people to join a “call” list to do outreach to people in our congregation who live alone and could use an encouraging word from their Marble Family.

As we consider how we face the growing crisis before us, let us remember the words in Isaiah: “Do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand” (41:10). Because of our faith in God and the strength of our community, we will find a way forward together.

Dr. Michael Bos
Senior Minister
