LGBT Understanding: Level Ground Film and Arts Festival

Marble Collegiate Church proudly hosts a weekend of LGBT Understanding: Level Ground Film and Arts Festival, as part of our yearlong Diversity Series: Remember, Reflecting, Reconciling, with the support of the Collegiate Churches of New York and Believe Out Loud on Saturday, November 15 and Sunday, November 16, 2014.

Join us for a weekend of dialogue as we explore our common ground on Faith, Sexuality and Gender through Art, Film and Discussion in a welcoming, inclusive and intimate setting. All tickets are free (except the Jennifer Knapp concert on 11/15) but registration is required. When registering at Level Ground’s website, please put “0” in the ticket dollar amount box.

11:00am - 12:00pm: On Gender Conformity - A mixed media program including short films and live performances by Mac Shannon and Larry Darnell Penn Whitfield followed by a dialogue. (Chapel)

12:30 - 1:30pm: Lunch - Join Level Ground, Believe Out Loud and Marble Church staff team for Lunch and learn more about the vision of Level Ground and ways you can join them in their mission to create safe space for dialogue through art. (Loft)

1:00 - 2:00pm: Stations of the Cross: The Struggle for LGBT Equality - Artist, Mary Button’s fourteen images of the Stations of the Cross are a series of artistic representations of the Passion of Christ, depicting the story of his death from his sentencing to the laying of his body in the tomb. This series combines images depicting the struggle for LGBT equality through the 20th and 21st century. Each station illustrates the many ways in which the pursuit of justice for LGBT peoples is embedded in the history of the United States. (Sanctuary)

2:00 - 4:30pm: 10th Anniversary Screening - In Good Conscience: Sister Jeannine Gramick's Journey of Faith film screening followed by a dialogue with Barbara Rick, Sister Jeannine Gramick, and Marble’s Sister Carol Perry, SU. (Sanctuary)

4:00 - 7:00pm: Shower of Stoles - Curated by Martha Juillerat, Director of the Shower of Stoles Project, and former Presbyterian minister, the stoles are displayed with the hope that God's loving church will someday fully recognize and accept the gifts of its gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender members. The stoles on display are represented from all genders and ethnicities. (Loft)

7:00 - 9:00pm: Jennifer Knapp in Concert: Set Me Free - An evening of music and storytelling with Grammy nominated, Dove Award winning musician, Jennifer Knapp and her Inside Out Faith tour. She will be playing songs from her soon to be released album, Set Me Free, along with some old favorites. Tickets $10 (Sanctuary)
