Support Marble

Marble Collegiate Church is a unique community. Week after week, people find something at Marble that is hard to find anywhere else: a place to connect deeply with God and each other, hope for life, and inspiration to become all of who God created us to be. Giving is our opportunity to commit back to a God who is deeply committed to us.

Giving is a way that each of us can make a final tithe, a return to God of some portion of all that God has given to us. The practice of planned giving encourages us to look beyond our monthly budget and our annual pledge to consider the gifts we will make when our need for worldly assets is done. For many of us, our final gifts will be the most significant gifts we will ever make.

Planned Giving

For longtime Marble member, Dwight D. Rangeler, music was one of the most important things in his life and it was his wish that the gift he left to Marble go toward its Music Ministry. Thanks to Dwight’s thoughtful and generous planning, he remembered Marble in his will with a legacy gift. Through conversations with his partner of 41 years, Dieter Killinger, Dwight’s gift has provided substantial seed money for rebuilding Marble’s Pipe Organ – a gift that congregants will enjoy for generations to come. Dwight’s memory lives on in a significant way, one that not only provides for Marble’s ministry but enhances the way every person who steps through the Sanctuary doors encounters God. “I know that this is exactly how Dwight would want his gift to be used. I feel close to him every time I sit in the balcony—close to the choir and organ that meant so much to him.”

Almost any kind of planned gift you might leave to a family member or beloved friend – gifts of cash, stocks, mutual funds, life insurance, retirement funds, annuities, and trusts – may also be left to Marble.

Bequest

Perhaps the simplest way to remember Marble in your planned giving is through a bequest in your will. A bequest might be a specific amount of money or assets, a percentage of those assets, or the residual (what is left over after heirs and other obligations are paid) from an estate. This brief document shows some of the possibilities.

The Peale Society

For many years, members and friends have included Marble Collegiate Church in their financial and estate plans, and we are stronger because of their generosity. To honor and recognize benefactors who have remembered Marble in their Wills or with a planned gift, we established the Peale Society, named after longtime Senior Minister, Dr. Norman Vincent Peale.

If you have already included Marble Collegiate Church in your estate plans, thank you. Please let us know of your gift so that we can acknowledge your generosity. Clay Hale, would love to know of your gift. We will keep your gift amount confidential unless you choose otherwise.

Honoring Someone Special

Consider making a gift to Marble Church in honor of your friends and family to acknowledge a new baby, birthdays, anniversaries, or any special life event. Gifts can also be made to mark a dear one’s passing.

You will receive an acknowledgment of your donation and your friends will receive a card from Marble telling them that you have made these thoughtful gifts in their names or in the name of someone they loved. (The amount of your contribution will be kept confidential.)

Other Ways to Make a Non-cash Gift

There are lots of ways you can contribute to Marble—including non-cash gifts such as stock transfers, IRA charitable rollover gifts, and life insurance policies. These forms of giving can also make a big difference to our community.

Gifts of Stocks and Other Securities

Gifts of appreciated stock, mutual funds, and bonds provide a double benefit. In most cases, you will be entitled to an income tax charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the securities on the date of the gift and will not have to report capital gains income. To initiate a stock transfer, contact Clay Hale.

Gifts through Retirement Plans

You may give a gift to Marble Collegiate Church through your IRA or other retirement plans by naming the church the beneficiary of the funds. Additionally, the American Taxpayer Relief Act allows individuals age 70½ or older to transfer up to $100,000 from their IRA to charities, like Marble Collegiate Church, without first counting it as taxable income.

Gifts of Life Insurance

You may name Marble Collegiate Church as an irrevocable owner and beneficiary of an existing life insurance policy that you no longer need, or purchase a new policy to benefit the church. The premiums are deductible as charitable contributions. If you give an existing policy to Marble Collegiate Church outright, your deduction is approximately equal to the policy’s present cash value.

Our Giving FAQs may answer some of your questions about these non-cash gifts. We also recommend that you talk with your financial advisor regarding the option that best meets your financial goals. And please don’t hesitate to contact Clay Hale.
