Oh Dear Emmanuel

Dear Emmanuel,

My beautiful baby boy. My firstborn. How I love you!  You are more precious than life to me. Many days I stare at you in wonder. The angel Gabriel told me of you. The prophet Isaiah spoke of you. Can it really be? You are the son of our God. Men came from faraway nations to leave you presents. Precious gifts of frankincense, gold and myrrh, worthy of a king. I was amazed and my heart was full.

You were born in a manger among the animals. Yet you are to be the savior, the promised leader among our people. Emmanuel, my Emmanuel! I believed the angel when he told me that you will rule on the throne of King David. You will be king forever!

But there are those who wish you harm. Herod is threatened and wants to do you harm. Soon your father will take us to Egypt. We will protect you. We will keep you safe.

I cannot imagine my life without you.

Love,

Mother
