A (Lenten) Prayer for New Beginnings

Dear Lord

Winter seems a fallow time

Gray inhabits where color once reigned;

The earth is barren and hard.

Help me love these days

When my soul goes deep in longing

For without the dark and cold,

I would never pray for illumination.

Help me know

It is only the appearance of death.

You have another Genesis in mind,

A blessed new beginning.

For as seeds underground are preparing,

As my human nature is hoping,

Your light indeed is dawning:

Glorious light!

Show me the colors that dance within the gray,

Melt my heart, call seedlings into green.

Illuminate my spirit, open my eyes

To the grace of what has been, and the joy of what will be,

For this is my new beginning

And all Springs are possible

For those who love the Lord.
