"Witness Trees"

As I was driving to work this week, I listened to Parkology's podcast highlighting the Witness Tree Protection Program from the National Park Service. One such tree stands on the grounds of what was the Edward R. Murrow Federal Office Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Thirty years ago this month, a bomb destroyed the building and took the lives of 168 people and injured hundreds. Listen to the story of the "Survivor Tree."

One tree, by being deeply wounded,
Has been impressed as Witness Tree
And made commit to memory
My proof of being not unbounded.
Thus truth's established and borne out,
Though circumstanced with dark and doubt
Though by a world of doubt surrounded."

My Oklahoma City Prayer

Almighty God,
Today I pray for all of those who lost their lives on April 19th, 1995 in Oklahoma City.
I pray for all who lost family and friends.
I pray for all of the injured and survivors.
I pray for all of the first responders.
I pray for Oklahoma City and this country as we remember.
May you help us to heal, love, and support those in need.
And I pray to strengthen all of those who work for justice and peace.
May this never happen again.
Amen.
