Dear Friend,

“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” – Matthew 25:40

Dear friend,

Kindness takes different shapes and forms.
A listening ear,
A smile, a hug, or
Feeding kittens waiting for a home.

Kindness sometimes happens without a thought.
Standing with the soul who is alone, hungry and afraid,
Offering a cup of water even when she may not accept, or
Rolling up your sleeves and assisting after a tragedy.

Kindness beckons attention.
Helping someone cross the street,
Sitting with a friend who just learned they are sick, or
Cradling the newborn who has no family yet.

Kindness is standing up for the those experiencing injustices.
Walking the picket line with a friend who is fighting for his work,
Being a voice for the helpless, and
Offering love and hope by giving from your heart.

Kindness to oneself is important too.
Allowing for self-care and rest,
Asking for help without shame, and
Knowing that to be kind to others, one must be kind to oneself.

May we be moved toward kindness this advent season, as we become the hands, feet and heart of Jesus.
